2022.01.24 09:02 Gold_cheetah102 S'pore-based influencer Irene Zhao rakes in S$7.5 million in 10 days via NFTs of crypto memes - how does it work?
Read the article several times and wonder how exactly does it work - does it mean that each selfie created is unique (and hence NFT) and it was sold for a total of S$7.5 million in 10 days? Seems like such a cool arrangement - how could we create this type of NFTs? Thank you!

2022.01.24 09:02 autotldr UAE bans flying of recreational drones after fatal attack
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 36%. (I'm a bot)
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - The United Arab Emirates has banned the flying of drones in the country for recreation after Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed a fatal drone attack on an oil facility and major airport in the country.
A rare drone and missile strike on the capital of Abu Dhabi blew up several fuel tankers and killed three people last week.
While the UAE has largely withdrawn troops from the stalemated conflict, the country continues to be a major player and support local militias on the ground.
ADVERTISEMENT.The UAE said the Houthis targeted the country with bomb-laden drones and cruise and ballistic missiles, adding the country had intercepted some of the projectiles.
Government regulations in the UAE already restrict flying drones in residential areas as well as near, around and over airports.
Drone users typically must obtain a certificate from the civil aviation authorities.

2022.01.24 09:02 SmoothReplacement302 What If You Can Already Afford Some Anti-Work?
It really doesn't have to be all or nothing: either retirement or full time. Even if you can afford to retire early, there are risks - your qualifications and employability will expire soon, and possibly forever, your savings may not provide you for as long as you thought.
But you can go 3 years full-time, 1 year retired, 3 years full-time, 1 year retired, etc.
> But how do I explain the gap years?
If you spend ~1h/day improving your qualifications, you will aready be ahead of most full-time options in terms of qualifications. Jobs do not invest as much into the qualifications (or really anything) of their workers and prefer unsustainable exploitation. Spending as much as 1h/day can make you more, not less, employable and productive after 1 year off. Remember that you can also retire for 3-4 years and get a completely new education (especially if it is cheap or free in your country), or get 1 year off, but also explore new options or learn a new language which will open up a whole new job market for you.
The rest of the time you can just be free: you can volunteer, help unions, you can learn to cook, learn to sing, spend time with family, watch lectures, do projects, learn a new sport, go hiking every day for hours, play video games, the list goes on and on. Your will probably live longer too, especially if you exercise regularly and wake up at the same time every day. And finally, by retiring while still employable you contribute to labor shortages, which improves working conditions for the rest of the workers. And if others pick up this strategy, they'll make it easier for you to be employed when you're back to work too.
P.S. I discussed this with my brother and he's immediately on board with taking his 1 year off! He's so good with his leisure time that I have no doubts he'll use this year off wisely. He doesn't have quite enough savings, but I'll sponsor with % of my salary and when I take my year off, he'll help me too.

Hello! I'm applying to the 1+3 track, and for this application to the university only requires entry to the MSc program first.
However, in the ESRC application, it requires you to submit a research proposal. Is that supposed to be for research under the MSc or already for your PhD?

2022.01.24 09:02 TheBHSP Trying to understand bioinformatics papers but lack prerequisite math to understand the methods described
I am trying to dive deeper into the non-AI side of bioinformatics but realise that the methods in most papers go completely over my head. It seems that information theory and statistics are extremely crucial in order to understand the tools you are using and how to develop new ones. I am a biology major and unfortunately, the only "statistics" I had was an introductory course that was essentially an assessment on how to press the calculator.
Does anyone fluent in the field of information theory have any resource or textbook they recommend? Is "Elements of Information Theory" still good?

2022.01.24 09:02 Bonegilla [IWantOut] 34M Toronto Canada -> Ireland or Hungary
I posted this awhile back but due to the Pandemic and a change in life circumstances I have yet to make a move overseas. Now I am looking for fresh, updated opinions.
I am 34, Male, Single and living in Toronto with no ties here. I manage a Condominium here but I am looking for a change. I am an EU (Hungarian) Citizen who just wants a better life than can be found in Canada presently.
I was considering Hungary because my savings will go further there starting up and I know the country well. Ireland was under consideration because of the currency, the language and ease of access. I also know people in Dublin.
In Hungary I was looking at Budapest while in Ireland I was looking at Cork due to the cost of living in Dublin.
Previously over the years I worked in the hospitality industry and most recently prior to this I worked doing Security for 10 years.
I have around 14000 dollars CAD in savings with every desire to work ASAP upon landing.
The reason I am looking to leave Canada was because house is incredibly unaffordable here. If you don't have over a million dollars lying around, you cannot afford a home in Toronto. The rest of Canada that used to be cheap is also becoming unaffordable.
Wages have not kept pace here, government policy has made Canada very different from the place I was born and raised in. It is not longer a beacon of hope and it is slowly turning into the USA.
I have a saying if you are going to be damned, best to be damned in a place you love. I want a change for a better future.
Thoughts? Do I stand a chance in either of these countries? Which one do people suggest I go to?
