2021.12.03 19:31 viewtoathrill La Danza de la Realidad (The Dance of Reality, 2013)

TSPDT 10600, which is the highest ranking; Chile/France; Director: Alejandro Jodorowsky; Writer: Alejandro Jodorowsky; Watched December 2nd on the ABCKO Blu-ray release IMDB
132 minutes. Jodorowsky uses the relationship with his father, mother and the town where he grew up to show us how all reality is based on perception.
It took me awhile to settle into this film as it feels a bit different than the rest of Jodorowsky’s work. It’s very straightforward and linear in plot while each individual scene carries a lot of surrealist imagery. We follow a young Alejandro in Tocapillo, Chile. His father is played by his real-life son Brontis, and is a complicated person. He has very toxic ideas of masculinity and is not a warm man, but we also see the hatred and ridicule he faced as a Jewish person in Chile. He is a political activist and an idealist and raises Alejandro to have no emotion but all resolve and strength. His mother sings all of her dialog, and is represented as pure heart and warmth. She is the balance.
Although this is positioned as a film about Alejandro, this is the father’s story at its core. Or rather, an explanation of all the important life events that went into shaping Alejandro’s father. We see him attempt a political assassination, have a religious experience and have his hands become paralyzed. We also see how physical strength is not enough to survive in this world. It’s an interesting psychological concept that was explored by a great Jewish writer and psychologist, Viktor Frankl. The physically strong were not typically the ones who survived the concentration camps, Frankl notes. He was imprisoned as well and he saw firsthand how it was the people that could find a purpose that survived. Some of them were physically strong, but the important information here was that their existence could be tied to a greater purpose.
So, in one sense this is the journey of Jamie Jodorowsky finding his purpose. He has to go through a tough journey to get there, but has the support of his loving wife and adoring son (Alejandro) that love him at each stage of his transformation.
This deep into Jodorowsky’s catalog I think it’s safe to say I am a big fan of his work. Listening to four of his commentaries was very helpful because I got to understand what he was aspiring to do through his cinema. It sounds like he is an absolute terror to work with, or at least was when he was younger, so I don’t want to make excuses for him in that regard. With 23 years between films, however, I believe that a humbled Jodorowsky shows up to make Dance of Reality. I believe this film would have been therapeutic for him to make, and also shows a different side to the artist who was known for being so blindly arrogant.
Two films left in this particular journey. I believe Endless Poetry is a loose sequel to this film and then I have no idea what to expect with Psychomagic. Can’t wait to find out!

2021.12.03 19:31 fixationed Just got a new job working for a video game company. Am I allowed to talk about what games I work on and what company I work for?

I signed a long NDA and there was nothing saying I can't talk about what company I work for, but the games were more vague. Nothing specific about not being allowed to mention the games I work on. Obviously I can't talk about story or anything but not sure if I can just say "I'm working on [sequel to popular video game]". Is this typically allowed? I've never worked in video games before, only commercials. In those it was fine to say what commercial it was for

2021.12.03 19:31 hparamore Help hooking up 2 screens to both a PC and a Macbook Pro.

I have 2 monitors (one 34" curved in the middle, and one 27" vertical on the left) and I have those hooked up to my PC. I play games at night, so that works great. I also work from home, and many of the things I use I can run off there with no issues. (have been using my own machine for work for about 6 months, no issues there)
Work this year is getting us all new work laptops, which means a great new MacBook Pro for me. Problem is... when I had one before with a previous job, it was a bit of a chore to run all the inputs into both monitors from both computers, and then have to use the [input] button thing on both monitors to switch them between computers. On my monitors it is not easy, and takes like 4 steps each. (and one is sideways ha)
Monitor 1 is an Acer with 2x HDMI, 1 VGA (ew) and 1xDP. (this is to the PC, and pushes 4k and 144fps. Monitor 2 is a Dell, and has the same ports.
So... without having to run 2x cables from my PC and another 2X cables from my mac, each to the monitors... is there a better way of working with these?
Some other things to consider:
- My keyboard is a Logitec that has both wireless to a dongle (to my PC) and can also be switched with a button to Bluetooth. (MAC) I also have a logitec wireless mouse, and would be ideal if I could somehow switch that as well just as easy? - Would like to use the MBPro as another monitor, but will probably fold it up and store it when not working.
Thanks!

TOP 10 GANGS THAT WERE MAJOR FACTORS IN THE 80's - 2000's THAT ARE NO LONGER AS MUCH OF A THREAT/ACTIVE (RESPECTFULLY) https://preview.redd.it/06rvw9nike381.png?width=976&format=png&auto=webp&s=14af27582dff9fe5d618f45bd519f420bda595bd

Cuatro Flats 13
  1. Orphans 13 (Pico Union) - Always a small gang in pico union, they were known to have trecherous youngsters in the 90's and early 2000's. Most members are burnt out stretched out with crazy time and membership went from around 90-100 to most likely under 30 in present day.
  2. Crenshaw Mafia Bloods (Inglewood)- . IN the 90's they were the most feared Inglewood blood gang and one of the most feared/respected blood gangs in all of the west side of south central. They had a ruthless reputation and famously ran the apartment complexes on their turf's open air drug market. Maybe the only Inglewood blood gang in a truly impovershed part of the city they were the first inglewood blood gang to start a blood on blood rivalry within the city (Neighborhood piru war that lasted almost 10 years). Mass gentrification in the area and decrease of membership they have taken the back to the other blood gangs of inglewood.
  3. Pacoima Piru (Pacoima)- At one time the largest and most active black gang in the entire San Fernando Valley demographic changes and decreased membership have made them not as much of a factor. Still around and somewhat active but much smaller in size as most members now live in different parts of the valley.
  4. Rollin 20's Outlaw Bloods (South Central East/Low Bottoms)- Most new generation members joined rollin 30's Piru . Their turf is nearly 90% latino in present day and they are not much of a factor. The oldest blood gang in Los Angeles history now is one of the smallest.
  5. Headhunters 13- (Pico Union/Downtown LA) - In the late 90's early 2000's they were one of the most violent/ active gangs. Massive injunctions/ gentrification and many violent wars have left the gang much smaller. A lot of older cats are still around but young membership has dwindled.
  6. 1st Street East Coast Crips- (East LA/ Aliso Village Projects) - The only crip or blood gang ever to have turf in East LA, 1st street was at a time one of the most respected ECC sets in LA. They controlled the drug market in the Aliso Village projects and went to war with nearly every gang in the projects most notably the primera flats as well as LAPD. Mass evictions and the first unofficial gang injunction whiped out most of the gang and political trickery and racism evicted nearly all of the black residents from the projects within a 5 year period. To many this set is defunct but you will still see older generation members around and some people claiming 1st street in other parts of LA such as lancaster.
  7. Cuatro Flats 13- Although still active in boyle heights mass arrests gentrification and losses from enemies have slowed up their once dominance in the area.
  8. Blood Stone Villains (South Central East) - Once one of the most feared/ respected blood gangs on the east side/ change in demographics, constant wars and losses have seen this gang go from being around 150-175 deep to 30 to 40 deep max in present day. The war with the pueblo bishops along with being surrounded by other enemies took a toll on them. Still standing strong but not as much of a presence in south central post 2015.
    1. Venice Shoreline Crips (Venice)- Although they are still around and active, mass gentrification, gang injunctions and a decrease in membership the past generation has made them way less of a factor on the streets. Similar to other gangs that decline in membership or are very small to begin with they have pretty much absorbed with School Yard Crips in mid city (YSL). Many of the shorelines present and part of last generation moved all over west LA and Mid City so this alliance only made sense. Majority of the new generation members of venice (95%) do not live in Venice.
  9. Toonerville 13 (Atwater Village/NELA)- Also plagued by mass gentrification and decreased membership, Toonerville is mostly relying on its reputation from the 90's. At that time they were arguably one of the most active mexican gangs in Northeast LA. They are still active, but much smaller.
