2021.11.30 15:22 CaptainUnlikely Dev: You don't happen to know Wix syntax by any chance? Me: What have you done?
"Oh, it's just my installer doesn't always work, I've already installed it on like 100 machines but it doesn't seem to upgrade properly and sometimes I just delete the files and service and I install it again, teehee". I check the inventory, I see 3, 4, no, 7 entries for the same app on some machines, same name, same version, different product IDs. "The upgrade code isn't important right?"...well, sort of, yes. "I've made a mess haven't I?"...yes, yes you have, but don't worry.
Not really a huge rant, the guy is learning and that's great, but it makes my eye twitch that he installed it on a reasonable number of machines before thinking "hey, we have this tool that deploys software, maybe we should use that". Don't have any of the old MSIs either so now I need to deploy the app and just...clean up all the old stuff separately with no frame of reference. Still, I have no great standards to hold his work up against because as far as the eye can see our environment is littered with poor installer designs so what can you do.
6/10 I need some sleep.

2021.11.30 15:22 Taro_94 Phone reboots when travelling
I've recently bought POCO X3 Pro and installed LineageOS + microG on it straight away (did not use its stock Android until I could unlock my bootloader and then installed LOS).
I don't know whether the problem I have is related to microG, LOS, the device itself or my government's rule, I wanted to ask if anyone knows what may cause it.
The device randomly reboots. Thing is, it only ever does this when I'm travelling (by tram, by train or walking). It never happens when my (phone's) location is more or less stationary (i.e. walking around the house is not enough to trigger it). It's happened to me both when the phone was being used and when it was stashed away in a pocket or a backpack.
Given this condition, I assumed it's something to do with location changing, but haven't found any setting that could be responsible (i.e. I've tried changing them one by one, sometimes two at a time, but the problem still persisted). What I've tried:
- Turning off bluetooth
- Turning off location
- Turning off wi-fi scanning
- Formatting cache partition
- Turning off automatic selection of mobile network
I'm running out of ideas, so I joined reddit just to ask for advice. Has anyone experienced such behavior? Could this be caused by microG at all?

2021.11.30 15:22 gamegyro56 What are some interesting/important differences between modern Islam and early Islam that most don't know about?
In Christianity, I can think of many: the lack of a Trinity, the immense diversity of Christianity (e.g. Gnostic Christianity), the Biblical canon was in dispute.
What are some examples in Islam? I know of some already well-known ones, like the rationalist Mutazila, or that modern Islam isn't as concerned with the political question of who should be caliph. And possibly others, like Muhammad not being infallible, early Islam's lesser importance on hadith and law, and sunan instead of sunnah; but I'd like people to expound upon these (since I'm pretty ignorant).

2021.11.30 15:22 Glittering_Bear_5218 Was it rude that I didn’t talk to my ex?
Today was the first day I decided to get out we do something since the breakup and we all went out to eat. I didn’t know my ex was going to be there until a friend met me at my car and he said hey just to give you a heads up ____ is here. Me and you can go somewhere else if you like and at first I was hesitant but I decided to go in. It was the four of us eating and me and my ex didn’t talk at all. We didn’t even make eye contact. I got up and went outside for a second and was trying so hard not to cry. My friend texted me asking if i was okay and I said not really. He came outside and hugged me then I cried.I told him that I wanted to go home. My ex came outside and he was like can we talk I didn’t even look at him just got in my car and went home. I’m not sure what he even wanted to talk about.

2021.11.30 15:22 jhwoodshop Asking out the girl that works at the gas station.
I go to the same gas station every day. It's part of my routine. Workers come and go, and I usually sort of get to know a bit about them. I usually don't talk to them unless they talk to me. I just am patient and kind and conduct my business and go on with my day. At one point in time there was a girl that clearly liked me, but I was in a relationship so I never pursued. Now that I'm single I really regret it, because she seemed like such a nice person, but she's gone and I doubt I'll see her again.
So lately there has been a girl there, she started smiling at me and waving hi every time I came in after a couple months. Then I finally got the nerve to ask her name, which got an enthusiastic response. I think she blushed a bit. I bought my coke and went on. Next time I saw her I asked where she was from she said she was from India. I asked how she ended up here and she said for school. I asked what she is studying and she is getting her masters and told me the subject. I told her I thought that was great.
So I guess here is my question. Should I ask her out? I feel like it's sort of inappropriate because she is just there to do her job and get through school. I don't want to make that more awkward or difficult than it needs to be. I'm also terrified of the rejection or being seen as that guy. For that reason I usually just meet people on apps because it is more clear what they want.
If I should ask her out what would be the best way? I thought next time I see her I'll ask her what she does for fun and maybe get more information. She is from India, but doesn't seem like she is conservative or traditional. There doesn't seem to be any language barrier, so that's good. She just seems so kind, genuine, and smart that it makes me want to know her. She's pretty good looking too, so it's hard to separate that thought as a guy...but my motivation isn't physical.
If it goes wrong I've got to find a new gas station. Not a big deal...but it is part of my routine. I guess it's a small price to pay for the potential of finding a new friend or girlfriend.

2021.11.30 15:22 quarterlifecrisis4 Neighbor mining potential fire hazard
So I’m not a regular on this sub but have looked around here and there. I don’t mine myself since I’m renting and pretty sure the owner wouldn’t agree if I asked. The main reason is I don’t have somewhere to put mining equipment where I wouldn’t have to deal with the heat.
Back to the point of this post. I’m pretty sure my neighbor has a good sized mining operation going. They are also renting. They moved in earlier this year. My gf thought they had a grow farm because they always had a fan going overnight with their windows open. I’m pretty sure they’re not growing weed but mining crypto because I don’t smell a constant weed smell from their house.
I was on the fence about what they were doing til about a week ago. The owners of the house are having work done and luckily some guys were working when it happened. I heard them banging on a back window and went to see what was up and they yell “Fire fire!” I ran outside and a tree my neighbor has in their backyard has a small fire on the top of it. I couldn’t see what was causing it yet and try to find my fire extinguisher but i remembered I threw it out cause it was expired and hadn’t gotten a new one since. I then ran to my neighbors banging on their door and windows yelling “Fire!” Turns out nobody was home. My gf called 911 and I went out to grab a hose til my gf told me it was their power line. I looked and saw their power line wasn’t connected to their house but hanging on this tree. At this point the fire had stopped.
The fire department came and went in their backyard to check it out. They asked me if anyone was home and said how I tried banging on their door but nobody was home. They said that the power company was on their way and took off. Power company came to fix it. They asked jokingly if it was a grow house and we said we think it might be. They said how the power line melted from heat from them using so much power and that whatever they’re doing it’ll happen again.
So now I have in the back of my head that a fire will start in their backyard since that tree is still under the path for the power line to their house. Then last night 3 transformers that are one house away from my neighbors blew. Two blew back to back then the third one blew about 30-40 minutes later. Turns out those transformers supply the whole neighborhood with power. Power company got the power back up pretty quickly though. I’m wondering if this could’ve been caused by my neighbor using too much power? I do know transformers aren’t usually replaced unless they fail but for three transformers right next to each other to all blow within an hour sounds like too much of a coincidence to me.
Now I don’t mind people mining crypto. What I do mind is that my neighbor seems to be pulling too much power and causing a fire hazard. I know that people will usually be able to get their electric company to upgrade their homes power supply but since my neighbor is renting I’m pretty sure they don’t want to ask the owner of the house to do that since they probably wouldn’t want them running a mining operation out of the house. I now have in the back of my head that there will be a fire started in their backyard again from their power line melting and it won’t be small next time. Has anyone who mines had a problem with their power lines since they started mining? Can I contact my power company about this? I mean it seems like they know since their power line melted. But now the fact that the transformers blew in the middle of the night when not that many people are using electricity makes me wonder how much power they’re pulling.

2021.11.30 15:22 Plowbeast Is there any data out there to show which at bat has a higher .BA?
Basically, I wonder if any given batter has a better chance of getting hit in their first try against the same pitcher or in a second or third go-around until the bullpen comes in.
I can't find anything here or on pro baseball reference that points to it and that could really be interesting to prove or disprove whether it's better to pull a starter on the first cycle of the batting order once a certain number of hits are on the board.
Off the top of my head, I feel as if it has to rise cumulatively as the hitter gets more used to the pitch selection but this could be one of those counterintuitive things where they actually do better on the first frame.

2021.11.30 15:22 nathanhlauj Zoom phone opinions + Alternatives
Good afternoon voip community,
I've been researching a lot of softphone options out there and zoom phone seems to be the one that people enjoy. I've done research on zoom, teams, google, 8x8, nextiva, 3cx, and ringcentral. Are there other options out there that I'm missing?
The main thing would be pricing which points to 3cx, but the SC licensing scares me as we hold pretty big meetings regularly.
Important pieces really are - Soft phones, hardware compatibility to be able to scale if required, and cost.
We currently have 35 in house, and will be expanding to our techs which would be around 200 users. We are 99% iPhone except for some of the executives who prefer android.
As much as I want to be on-prem. I am a one man team and would find it difficult to manage an onsite pbx which is why I'm looking at cloud pbx.

For context, I bought the phone unlocked. It works fine, and I am not sure what an 30 in 2021 is currently running on but it's never once updated the OS in the 2 years I've had it. Can I manually download and installl/update it somehow like any other .apk file?
